    Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It is arguably the most elegant style of dance. It is also the dance form that provides strong benefits from when commenced early in their dance career. Ballet teaches grace, poise and correct posture.

    It improves strength, balance, focus and control. Students attending Ballet lessons will gain greater flexibility, timing, body awareness and creativity. Ballet is highly beneficial to young dancers, especially in today’s modern world to the health and well being of young growing bodies.    

    Jazz / Hip Hop

    Our Jazz and Hip Hop classes combine the technique and pace of these two genres into one class. Dancers enjoy participating in this energetic and fun class and never want it to end.

    Jazz is an energetic genre that teaches students technique including posture, flexibility, balance and strength. Hip Hop encourages students to develop their individual style and flair whilst placing importance on musicality and performance. This combination class will present one routine at the Annual End of Year Concert in one of the two dance forms.    


    The genre of Contemporary Dance is a blend of ballet and modern dance. It builds a strong centre and combines precision leg work with fluidity of the torso. Contemporary dance encourages self-expression, natural movement and personal interpretation.

    At Awaken, we cover a range of contemporary techniques and possibilities for growth are endless. Students will learn versatility and a freer form of movement and expression. 

    Stretch, Strength and Conditioning

    Stretching is 100% necessary for the growth and improvement of a dancer. Flexibility is something that all dancers strive for. Dancers need to be flexible to accomplish challenging technique and choreography to reduce the risk of injury. This class is designed to improve a dancers range of motion, enhance muscle flexibility, strength and control. In doing so, students will improve their posture and awareness of their own bodies.

    Students wishing to propel their dancing to the next level, will learn stretches and exercises that can be practiced at home to achieve their own personal goals.
